The magical beauty of the Knysna forest, including the legendary Knysna Elephants and the giant Outeniqua Yellowwood trees of which some are almost a thousand years old, achieved a mythical and permanent place in the heart of South Africans through the literature created by Dalene Matthee. Knysna is a Khoi-Khoi word, meaning “place of the ferns,” referring to the dense forests.
