Located on the banks of the Auob River, which forms the western boundary of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, is Mata-Mata Rest Camp. This beautiful camp borders Namibia and is surrounded by thorny Kalahari Dune Bushveld. The Raptor Interpretation Centre in the camp gives guests the opportunity to learn more about the many birds of prey found in the Kgalagadi.
Rates are per night and exclude 1% community fund which will be added when booking.

A variety of accommodation types, suiting every taste and budget, is offered at the Mata-Mata Rest Camp, including campsites, chalets and family chalets. Some of the facilities have been adapted to accommodate those who are mobility challenged. A generator provides electricity for 16 hours per day and there is no cellphone reception, giving visitors the opportunity to be completely cut from the stresses of everyday life.
The campsites at Mata-Mata are spacious and neat and accommodate up to 6 persons each. Additional vehicles are charged an additional fee. Communal ablution facilities with showers, toilets and basins are supplied. Some of the campsites have electrical connection points and some don’t.
There are two different sizes of air-conditioned chalets available at Mata-Mata Rest Camp. A maximum of 6 persons are accommodated in the bigger chalets. The private bathroom has a toilet and shower. The kitchen is equipped for basic self-catering and includes a fridge and hotplate. Utensils, crockery and cutlery as well as barbecue facilities are provided.
A lounge and DSTV with limited channels is available and the kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and has a fridge. These chalets have a view over the riverbed and the patio is equipped with barbecue facilities. One of the 4-sleeper chalets had been adapted to accommodate those who are mobility challenged.
Mata-Mata Rest Camp has a generator providing electricity from 05:00 to 21:30 each day. There is a shop selling basic commodities and groceries and a filling station. The swimming pool offers a refreshing place for relaxation and the hide at the waterhole provides ample opportunity for close-up encounters with the wildlife.
Attracting adventurous visitors who enjoy driving around the park on the lookout for the protected wildlife, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park offers several trails - some of them being only accessible by 4x4-vehicles.
The Raptor Interpretation Centre at Mata-Mata Rest Camp offers ample opportunity for learning about the birds of prey living in the Kgalagadi and the hide at the waterhole provides opportunity for close encounters with the wild animals.
