When entering the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park from South Africa, it will be at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp. Located just over 70 km from the small northern-Cape village of Askham, the main camp of the park had been developed at the confluence of the Auob river and the Nossob river.
In the arid Kalahari, these rivers are said to flow visibly about once in a century. However, water is stored underground to provide sustenance for grass and camelthorn trees growing in the river bed.
Twee Rivieren Rest Camp is the largest camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and also the administrative headquarters where immigration control for border crossings into Namibia or Botswana is done.
Rates are per night and exclude 1% community fund which will be added when booking.

A variety of accommodation types are offered at the Twee Rivieren Rest Camp, including campsites, chalets and family cottages. Some of the facilities have been adapted to accommodate those who are mobility challenged. Twee Rivieren is the only rest camp in the park that has 24 hours of electricity per day and cell phone reception.
Communal ablution facilities with showers, baths, toilets and basins are supplied and communal laundry facilities are available. Some of the campsites have electrical connection points and some don’t. Shared water taps are available throughout the camping grounds.
Two persons are accommodated in each cottage, which has a bedroom, furnished with 2 single beds. These air-conditioned units have a private bathroom with a shower and toilet. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering purposes, including a fridge and 2-plate stove.

The Family Chalets at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp have 2 bedrooms each, which are furnished with 2 single beds each. The units are air-conditioned and there is a shower, toilet and basin in the private bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a 2-plate stove and fridge.
As the Main Rest Camp of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, the Twee Rivieren Camp has an A la Carte Restaurant, a shop selling basic commodities and a swimming pool. It is the only camp that has 24-hour electricity and mobile reception.
A filling station supplying diesel and petrol is available and there are laundry facilities at the campsite. The reception and administrative offices include Immigration services for guests exiting the park into either Botswana or Namibia.
Attracting adventurous visitors who enjoy driving around the park on the lookout for the protected wildlife, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park offers several trails - some of them being only accessible by 4x4-vehicles.
Each of the three main rest camps have an Interpretation as well as a hide at a waterhole where close encounters with the wild animals can be enjoyed.
