Marakele National Park, in the heart of the Waterberg Biosphere of the Limpopo Province, is divided into a western and eastern section, which is connected to each other by a subway tunnel with an electric gate. Because the two areas differ from each other regarding landscape and vegetation, different animals are to be seen in the two sections. Guests visiting Marakele should ensure that both sides of the park are included in their game drives, as both are well worth visiting.
Bontle Tented Camp and Campsite is located in the western part and close to the main entrance to Marakele, where bush-covered plains offer grazing for zebras, antelope, giraffe and a variety of birds make their home in the tall trees. The name of the camp – Bontle – means beautiful, which is a fitting description of the rustic camp which is covered in shade trees in summer, offering unobstructed views of the mountains and unspoiled bush.
Rates are per night and exclude 1% community fund which will be added when booking.

The unfenced Bontle camp offers 36 spacious campsites and 10 Safari Tent units. The shaded campsites are laid out in 3 loops, each one with a communal ablution block. The permanently erected tented units offer a camping experience without the hassle of setting up your own tents and equipment. All the furnished tented units have private bathrooms and are equipped for self-catering purposes. Some of these units are accessible to those with limited mobility.
Be on the lookout for monkeys in the camp. Ensure food is safely stored and not left out in the open as these rascals are fast and will steal food from your table. Also, take care when walking in the camp as there is no fencing and wildlife can move through the camp at any time. Stay within the designated area, but keep your distance from the wild animals as they can be dangerous when they feel threatened.
Six of the permanently erected Tented Units are furnished with 2 single beds each, accommodating a maximum of 2 persons. The en-suite bathrooms have showers, toilets and wash basins. A fully equipped kitchen is offered and there are outdoor furniture and barbecue facilities available on the private veranda.
