Mountain Zebra Park

While most of the accommodation offered at Mountain Zebra National Park are located in the main Rest Camp, there are two more accommodation options available for those who prefer a bit of seclusion and the peace and quiet of staying in a secluded place, outside the camp.

Accommodation Options

Two rustic Mountain Cottages offer accommodation to a maximum of 10 persons in each. These are mostly used by hikers but can also be booked by other guests. Take note that these huts can only be reached with a 4x4 vehicle or at least a 2x4 vehicle with high ground clearance.

The historic Doornhoek Guesthouse is a beautiful and secluded Victorian house, situated on a mountainside, offering breathtaking views. Dating from 1838, this was one of the first permanent farmhouses in the area and was declared a national monument in 1986.

Mountain Cottages

One of the Mountain Cottages is located near the Weltevrede picnic site and the other in Berghofkloof. These huts can be booked by hikers or by those travelling in 4x4 vehicles or 4x2 vehicles with diff lock and high ground clearance. Focussing on adventurous guests, the cottages are rustic, secluded and minimally equipped.

Take note that the water at the Mountain Cottages are not potable and only safe for washing and ablutions. Ensure that you take sufficient drinking water along. Also, linen and towels are not provided and there is no electricity. Paraffin lamps and gas equipment are available.

Doornhoek Guest House

The historical and secluded farmhouse, dating from 1838, is a beautifully cared for and restored Victorian homestead. Offering incredible views over the Doornhoek Dam, this 3-bedroom house provides accommodation for 6 persons. Each of the 3 bedrooms have an en-suite bathroom. Two of the bedrooms are furnished with double beds while the third bedroom has 2 single beds.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, stove, oven, microwave and kettle. Cutlery, crockery and cookware is provided. The fireplace in the open plan lounge and dining area provides the ideal setting for relaxation during the long and cold winter evenings.

The Mountain Zebra National Park is located 24 km from the nearest town, Cradock. Banks, medical services, vehicle services, etc are available in town.
